Beta-microseminoprotein (MSMB) also called prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids (PSP94), is one of the three predominant proteins secreted by the prostate gland and found in human seminal fluid along with prostate-specfic antigen and prostatic specific acid phosphatase. Using exogenous MSMB, in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that MSMB may have several anti-tumor effects on prostate tumor cells. MSMB expression is high in normal prostate epithelial cells, but is decreased in prostate cancer cells. Studies have shown that MSMB is a strong independent factor indicating favorable outcome after radical prostatectomy for localized prostate cancer.
